Following the success of Hemantha Boteju and Pradeep Hewage in the first Test at Asgiriya, Sri Lanka are likely to add a third fast bowler to their line-up when they take on India in the second under-19 cricket Test starting at the Welagedera Stadium today.

Boteju and Hewage shared 14 wickets in the match as they subjected the Indian batsmen to an uneasy second innings with a series of short-pitched deliveries, while chasing a victory target of 66 runs, which they eventually achieved after losing seven wickets.

De Mazenod right-arm fast-medium bowler Dilhara Fernando is expected to join Boteju and Hewage to form a three-pronged pace attack to unsettle the Indians, as Sri Lanka look confidently towards winning the Test and squaring the 3-match series.

Fernando is expected to come in at the expense of off-spinner Chamara Liyanage, who bowled only eight overs in the entire first Test without success. The final decision between Fernando and Liyanage will be taken on the morning of the Test depending on the surface of the wicket.

Sri Lanka are also expected to make two other changes to the side that lost the first Test. Injured opening batsman Rajitha Basnayake and middle-order left-hander Ruwan Galappathi will be replaced by Nalanda's Shantha Kalavitigoda and Indika Konara from Ananda respectively.

Galappathi, according to Sri Lanka under 19 manager Carlton Bernadus, is still nursing a painful wrist after injuring it while fielding during the first Test. Although the swelling has gone down, Basnayake is still unable to field freely. In his absence, Kalavitigoda will open the batting with Upekha Fernando.

Galappathi's exclusion was on the cards after he failed to get into double figures in either innings at Kandy. Konara, apart from playing his role as a middle-order batsman is also a useful off-break bowler, which is one of the reasons why Liyanage may have to stay out.

Konara will form a three-pronged spin attack with skipper Nimesh Perera (right-arm leg-spin) and Rangana Herath (left-arm legspin).

``The spirit of the boys is very high and they are confident they can level the series,'' said Bernadus.

Sri Lanka lost the first Test purely by bad batting on the first innings which gave India a handy lead of 131.

Unexpected showers on Wednesday which took the groundsman by surprise, has resulted in the pitch, which has its fair share of grass on it, being damp as the covers were not on at the time. However, the hot conditions which are normally experienced in this part of the country, is expected to dry it out in time for a scheduled start at 10 a.m. today.

As a result of the weather, the Indians had their practice sessions cut short due to the wicket being damp. India are not expected to name their side until the morning of the Test.
