Ranatunga said on arrival at the Banadarnaike International Airport the wickets were the best he had played in a limited-over tournament.
``One-day cricket is a batsmen's game and the wickets were ideally suited for that occasion,'' said Ranatunga yesterday.
He said it was a team effort that enabled Sri Lanka to lift the Independence Cup after being beaten in the opening match by Pakistan.
Sri Lanka beat Pakistan 2-0 to win the best of three finals. The third game was not played.
Ranatunga said the temperature although extremely hot did not affect his players as they were used to playing under such conditions at home.
Host India and New Zealand were the other countries that took part.
