Sachin Tendulkar has been appointed captain of the Indian cricket team for the Australian and South African tours during October to December.

During this period, India will play a one-off Test against Australia at Delhi between December ten and 14, followed by a triangular one day series between India, Australia and South Africa from October 17 to November 7, followed by three Tests against South Africa (at Ahmedabad from November 20-24, Calcutta from November 27-December 1 and Kanpur from December 812), and a one-day international against South Africa at Bombay on December 14 for the benefit of former Test star Mohinder Amarnath.

This benefit match, to be played at the Wankhede, will be a daynight affair.

The ICC has appointed S Venkatraghavan and Peter Willey as officiating umpires for the one off Test against Australia, while former New Zealand batsman John Reid will be match referee for both the Test and the triangular one day series to follow.
