Bernie Wijesekera reporting from Australia Cairns, Saturday-The Sri Lanka cricketers open their strenuous tour of Australia, (Sunday November 19) here tomorrow, a one day game against Queensland XI. The players had a very good workout today. According to manager Duleep Mendis, the players are in good nick and look forward to an interesting days cricket against the Queensland XI. The team includes the legendery Allan Border who still plays first class cricket for the "Bulls" - the cham- pion state Queensland. Mendis told the Sunday Observer for to- days match left arm spinner Jayantha Silva will be left out. Fast bowler Promodaya Wickremasinghe too will be given a rest but will line up for the four-day match against Queensland starting on the 22nd of November, in Mackay. The other potential strike bowler, left arm paceman Chaminda Vaas and newcomer to the international scene medium pacer Manjula Munasinghe who left ahead for Australia to undergo treatment for their injuries will be ready to join the squad before the start of the Tasmanian leg of the tour on the 29th of November (also a one day game in Davenport), followed by a four day game against Tasmania, which team will include tyro Ricky Ponting to be played in Launceston. Dr. Quintus De Zilwa Sri Lanka Cricket Board`s rep in Australia who is in charge of the treatment of both Vaas and Munasinghe said both players have responded well for the treatment and will be fit for the rest of the tour. Dr. De Zilwa said both bowlers had a good workout at the nets and showed no sign of fatigue. The team will be picked (from) A. Ranatunga (Cpt.), Aravinda de Silva, R. Mahanama, C. Hathurusinghe, A. As planned at the Adelaide Oval for the 1st Benson & Hedges world series match between Sri Lanka and West Indies on 15 th of De- cember will not be played under lights as the lights will not be ready on time, despite early assurances given by the SA offi- cials.
