Date-stamped : 26 Oct95 - 18:28 On a greenish pitch SA were sent in n to bat at the Gabba. Paul Nobes went early LBW to Kasprowicz for 6. Johnson and Blewett steadied things for a while and took the score to 49 before Johnson was trapped by McDermott for 23. A further three wickets fell quickly as Blewett (25) fell to Law and Lehmann (0) and Brayshaw (0) were both caught behind, off McDermott and Kasprowicz respectively to the SACA`s 5/73 just after lunch. Gutsy Wicket-keeper batsman Tim Nielsen joined his skipper Siddons and these two proceeded to add a record sixth wicket stand for matches between SA and Queensland. They took the score to 236 before Siddons fell for 130 caught by Maher off Kasprowicz. Siddons faced just 158 balls in his innings which was his 25th century in Sheffield Shield cricket. The previous record 6th wkt stand was in 1990/91 when Joe Scuderi and David Hookes added 152 in Adelaide. Nielsen and May added a further 24 before Nielsen got out just before stumps for a very timely and valuable 47. At the close May and Gillespie were at the wicket and hopefully SA can get to 300 and beyond in the morning session to give the visitors something to bowl at. Kasprowicz was the outstanding bowler for Queensland with 3/46 from 24 overs. Contributed by Lawrie Colliver (colliver@ozemail.com.au)
