Date-stamped : 13 Mar95 - 14:50 SS 1994/95 : Tasmania v Victoria Played at the Bellerive Oval, 9,10,11,12 March 1995 ====> Day 1, 09 Mar 95 Rod Tucker and Mark Ridgeway defied the Victorian bowlers after Tassie were in all sorts of trouble in the Shield match at Bel- lerive Oval. After being a relatively safe 1/70 just before lunch, Tasmania collapsed to be 7/130. But the Skipper and Mark Ridgeway added 118 for the eighth wicket with the 33 year old pace bowler Ridgeway making 70 including 13 boundaries. Tucker was a little unlucky as he was lbw to Saker off the seventh ball of his 26th over. Apparently the umpires had both miscounted as the Tasmanian captain strode off for a defiant 93. For Victoria, Williams took 2/56, Saker 3/63 and Jason Bakker 4/40 from 21 overs. Close: Tasmania all out 273 ====> Day 2, 10 Mar 95 A defiant century by Matthew Elliot steered Victoria to first in- nings points at the Bellerive Oval. Victoria closed day two all out for 325 a lead of 51. Elliot started slowly being just 31 at lunch, he was 73 at tea and brought up his fifth first class cen- tury just after drinks in the final session and in all batted for 346 mins and hit nine four and two sixes. Elliot now has 971 runs at 53.04 this season. For Tasmania, Mark Ridgeway continued on his fine game taking 6/29 from 21.3 overs. Shaun Young also continued on his fine form this season taking 3/53 from 20 overs. ====> Day 3, 11 Mar 95 Tasmania batted itself back into the match being 4/301 at the close of day three, holding a lead of 249 with one day to play. Led by Jamie Cox (86) and Shaun Young (104*) Tasmania worked hard to get back into the match. Sadly for Victoria, last week`s one day final hero Troy Corbett could not complete his eleventh over due to back trouble. It is suspected that Corbett has stress fractures, the same injury which robbed him of much cricket last season. Tasmania`s Young batted superbly, and faced just 140 balls to reach his 2nd ton of the season. He hit 15 four and three sixes and smashed Brad Hodge over square leg and onto the roof of the Clarence Cricket Club. ====> Day 4, 12 Mar 95 Tasmania pulled off a remarkable outright victory over Victoria by 57 runs. Declaring at 4/413 with Shaun Young 152* and Rod Tucker 83* Victoria were set 362 to win in 82 overs. Led by Carlton opener Rohan Larkin, who made his maiden first class cen- tury. Victoria were going along well at 1/110 when Dean Jones was bowled by ex-Victorian Josh Marquet for 32. Later Grant Garidner got going for 49, but the persistance of the Tasmanians saw them home. Colin Miller picked up 3/77 and Josh Marquet took 3/53. Contributed by lawrie.colliver (lozza@adam.com.au)
