Date-stamped : 10 Dec93 - 08:55 The Guardian 28 May 1993 Tour Match: Aus v Surrey Surrey are stumped as Zoehrer claims eight behind the wicket THE wicketkeeper Tim Zoehrer claimed eight second-innings vic- tims as the Australians beat Surrey by 174 runs at The Oval yes- terday. His six catches and two stumpings left him one short of the world record set by Tahir Rashid in the winter. Tahir Rashid, brother of the Pakistan Test wicketkeeper Haroon, took eight catches and made one stumping for Habib Bank against the Pakistan AA. Zoehrer equalled Wally Grout's 33-year-old Aus- tralian record of eight catches for Queensland and the English first-class record shared by David East of Essex (1985) and Kent's Steve Marsh in 1991. Surrey had been set an improbable victory target of 319 in the Tetley Bitter Challenge but the leg-spinner Shane Warne, with four for 38, Brendon Julian (three for 30) - and Zoehrer - had them all out for 144. Afterwards Zoehrer said: ''That is the most success I have ever had in any level of cricket. Everything seemed to come my way. Whether I play in the Tests is up to the selectors.'' With Tetley offering pounds 2,000 for an Australian win and pounds 50,000 if they win 10 of their 15 matches against the first-class counties, the tourists are well on the way with three victories already.
