Date-stamped : 14 May94 - 18:28 South Africa vs Australia, 7th one day international. Played at Newlands, Cape Town, 6th April 1994. Australia won by 36 runs. Mark Taylor and Mark Waugh shared a partnership of 123 runs to set up an Australian victory. When Waugh joined Taylor Australia were in trouble at 10/2 but together they helped make sure that Australia remained in the running to share the series. They scored at over 4 runs an over throughout their partnership and set up the platform for a big total. Taylor was run out for 63 in an unlucky fashion. Mark Waugh lofted the ball to Kuiper at mid- off who dropped a fairly easy catch. Kuiper picked up the ball and, seeing Taylor out of his ground, threw down the stumps to run him out. Mark Waugh was out soon afterwards when he had big a swing at a Matthews delivery, missed it and was bowled for 71. Steve Waugh, Allan Border and Ian Healy all chipped in towards the end of the innings to bring the Australian total up to a very good 242. Needing to score at almost 5 per over, South Africa were faced by some extemely tight Australian bowling and never really looked like scoring the required runs. The brightest bat- ting came in the Hudson/Cronje partnership of 79 runs for the 2nd wicket. Hudson scored his second succes- sive fifty while Cronje was dropped twice in scoring 37. Rhodes and Kuiper weighed in with useful scores but they were never able to score fast enough to threaten the Australian score of 242. Shane Warne was the best of the bowlers and his 3/31 off 10 overs really disrupted the middle part of the SA innings and made sure they wouldn't come close to winning.
