Date-stamped : 02 Aug96 - 14:17 County Championship 1948 Hampshire v Glamorgan Bournemouth 21,23,24 August 1948 After rain had interfered with their previous games, Glamorgan knew that they would win the Championship title for the first ever time if they defeated Hampshire at Bournemouth. After win- ning the toss, Wilf Wooller was frustrated again as rain inter- fered with the first day`s play, so on the second day, his in- structions were quick runs. The batsmen responded with a ra- pid 315, giving the spin bowlers enough time to bowl Hampshire out twice. Everything went according to plan as Len Muncer took 5- 25, allowing a gleeful Wooller to enforce the follow on. When Hampshire batted again, it was veteran Johnnie Clay who worked his way through the Hampshire batsmen, taking 6-48. He was supported by some fine catching close to the wicket, and it was fitting that the `Grand Old Man` of Glamorgan cricket should take the final wicket as Glamorgan became County Champions.
