A one-innings match is played, with the winner gaining 12 points, a tie giving 6 points each and the side batting second in a drawn match scores 6 points. Position determined by points gained. If equal, then decided on most wins. Each team plays 17 matches. A county that is deemed to have prepared a pitch unsuitable for first-class cricket shall have 25 points deducted. A penalty of 10 or 15 points may be deducted for a poor pitch.
