KENYA WIN AND QUALIFY FOR THE NEXT ROUND
Kenya have qualified for the next round of the World Cup by beating Bangladesh by 32 runs.

Odumbe broke the 46-run partnership between Imran and Kapali when the off-spinner had Kapali chopping to point for Otieno to take a good catch and have Bangladesh 99/4 and the batsman out for 18 off 26 balls which included one four and a six.

Next to go was Imran, trying to play the anchor roll, out on 48 off 81 balls and Bangladesh 111/5.

A threatening partnership between Akram Khan and Sanwar Hossain was broken by Martin Suji when Hossain lofted the ball to long off to be caught for 16 and Bangladesh six down for 151.

Khaled Mahmud lasted nine balls when he was well stumped shuffling out to Odumbe for three and Bangladesh 158/7.

On 180 Bangladesh lost two wickets in two balls to Steve Tikolo with Mohammad Rafigue being caught on the sweep for five and Khan, running out of partners caught for 44.

It was all over in the 48 th over when Islam was also stumped off the bowling of Tikolo.

Bangladesh had been bowled out for 185 and given Kenya a passage to the super sixes.

BANGLADESH MAKES STEADY PROGRESS
Al Sahariar started the Bangladesh innings as if he had an early flight home. Two boundaries in the first over off Martin Suji and a pulled six in the third made his intentions clear. A flick down the leg side off the same bowler however ended his innings on 14 off 12 balls and Bangladesh 16/1.

Mohammad Ashraful lasted only nine balls when he was adjudged leg before after being struck on the pads by Suji for one and Bangladesh not off to a good start, 17/2.

Tushar Imran and Khaled Mashud took Bangladesh past the 50, coming up in 16 overs and included four fours and two sixes, the second when Imran dispatched Ongondo for maximum.

Mashud scored 14 patient runs (41 balls) when he edged Obuya to Shah at slip and Bangladesh lost their third wicket for 53.

Ongondo had to watch the second six off his bowling clear the ropes after Alok Kapali pulled him well over square leg as he and Imran made inroads into the target of 218.

After 25 overs Bangladesh had reached 92/3 with Imran on 37 and Kapali on 18.

A GOOD DISPLAY FROM BANGLADESH RESTRICT KENYA TO 217/7
A most improved bowling performance from Bangladesh, especially Sanwar Hossain (3/49), as they restrict Kenya to 217/7 off the 50 allocated overs.

Bangladesh continued to keep the pressure on the Kenyan batsmen who were finding it difficult to keep the scoreboard ticking over.

Tikolo got it going for a while but being tied down he was bowled round the legs in attempting a sweep off Sanwar Hossain. The captain had become the fourth wicket to fall on 116 having scored 27 off 45 balls including two fours.

The discipline from the Bangladesh bowlers had delayed the 100, only coming up in the 29th over.

Modi followed his captain when he gave Hossain an easy return catch for 12 and Kenya in danger of tossing away all the good work done in the tournament at 124/5.

Thomas Odoyo and Maurice Odumbe put together a 40-run partnership that looked to be taking Kenya out of the danger zone but Hossain had other ideas. Odoyo was struck on the pads as he tried to work to the on side and was given out leg before for 19 off 29 balls and Kenya 164/6 with seven overs to be bowled.

Odumbe proved to be the odd one out for Kenya. Scoring at nearly a run a ball he was joined by a willing partner in Collins Obuya and together they took Kenya 197 when Baisya, back in the attack struck. Obuya playing the strangest of shots, in trying to steer the ball over the stumps and over the keeper, had the stumps knocked back for 22 off 21 balls.

The 200 came up in the 49th over and included 20 fours and the six struck by Obuya to slightly spoil Hossain’s figures.

Odumbe went to an excellent 50 off 45 balls ending on an undefeated 52 as Kenya reached 217/7 at the completetion of the 50 overs.

BANGLADESH STRIKE EARLY AS KENYA STRUGGLE TO 94/3
Kenya has not had it all their own way as Bangladesh, bowling some disciplined lines, strike three times and restrict the batting side to 94 in the first 25 overs.

The perfect start for Bangladesh when Kennedy Otieno chased the third ball of the innings, a wide one outside the off, to edge Manjural Islam to the keeper and one down without a run on the board.

Ravindu Shah and Brijal Patel struggled against some disciplined bowling from both Islam and Tapash Baisya. The only blemish in their opening spell was Islam, the culprit of the odd wide, as they restricted Kenya to 44/1 from 13 overs.

Patel was the more aggressive of the two at the crease, striking five fours in his first 23 runs coming off 45 balls.

The Kenya 50 came up in 62 minutes off 14.1 overs and included seven fours.

The 50-run partnership came up in 90 balls with Patel scoring 24 and Shah 18.

In trying to up the run-rate Patel, on 32, fell in the 18th over trying to work the ball to the leg he lofted the ball into the hands of Islam at deep backward square leg to give Khaled Mahmud his first wicket and Kenya 68/2.

He was followed by Shah three overs later when the opener was deceived by Mohammad Rafique into spooning a catch to extra cover where Akram Khan made no mistake and Kenya three down for 80. Shah had scored 37 from 54 balls and stroked six fours.

After 25 overs Kenya had progressed to 94/3 with Steve Tikolo on 11 and Hitesh Modi on five.

KENYA WIN THE TOSS AND BAT
Kenya arrive at the Wanderers today with the knowledge that they have every chance of reaching the Super Six stage of the competition, but first they have to take care of Bangladesh.

Bangladesh after a much-improved showing against New Zealand will also be looking at beating the Kenyans and getting off the bottom of the Group B table.

With Bangladesh having Test status, Kenya will have the additional satisfaction and strengthen their cause for acceptance into the higher ranks if they can bring off a convincing win.

Kenya won the toss and has decided to bat first on what again looks like a good batting strip. Some heavy overnight rain may have left some moisture in the surface but that should change early with the warm weather that is expected.
