Sri Lanka has chance to boost its cause
Lynn McConnell - 14 December 2000

Sri Lanka's bid to greater acceptance among the leading nations in women's cricket should make tomorrow's CricInfo Women's World Cup contest with India at Lincoln Green an interesting affair.

The Sri Lankans have been the improvers of this tournament, of that there is no doubt.

They have qualified for the next World Cup by virtue of their sixth placing at the tournament and would dearly love to be taken more seriously be the higher level nations in the game.

Those nations may not have too many options but to recognise the Sri Lankans. Just as the men's team proved quick learners, so the women could be.

They lack support at home, but a good performance against India today could be just the fillip the side needs to reinforce the progress made at Lincoln University.

As for India, it will be looking to regain some of its better form in preparation for Wednesday's semi-final match with New Zealand.

The Indians have had a hard week after playing both Australia and New Zealand and will be keen to get their game plan back on a winning tack.

The game is the only one being played tomorrow.
