A Hong Kong women's team of mostly Under-20 players travelled to Singapore for the inaugural SCA International Women's T20 Challenge 2012 featuring teams from Thailand, Japan, Australia and hosts Singapore. The tournament was initially planned to be a six team event, however due to the last minute pull out by Colombo Women's District Cricket Association team, it was decided to go ahead with only 5 teams in the tournament.
The Singapore Cricket Association said this tournament was conceived as there was a lack of international tournaments for women's cricket in this region. The Singapore Cricket Association women's sub-committee took the lead to host the first of the tournament this year in Singapore. Hopefully this tournament will be continued in the next year with the help of sponsors or hosted by one of the participating associations.
