Pakistan and England Arrive Ahead of
this Weekend’s KARP Group Hong Kong Sixes 2012
[Hong Kong,
October 25, 2012]: Pakistan and England, the two most successful
teams in the history of the Hong Kong Sixes with five titles each, have arrived
in Hong Kong today ready for this weekend’s KARP Group Hong Kong Sixes (October
27 and 28 at Kowloon Cricket Club).
On arrival at the Hong Kong International Airport,
Pakistan team captain Kamran Akmal shared his excitement at the upcoming
competition ahead saying:
“It is my first time in Hong Kong and I am really excited about
the Sixes.
Some of the guys have played here before for several years and
they keep telling me what a great tournament this is.
“As defending champions I hope Pakistan can continue our good
run, play good cricket and win once again. We have some young players like
Tanveer Ahmed and Junaid Khan and they will be keen to impress everyone on
their first visit here.
“It is only five overs
so there are no easy games and everyone can win. We must be professional and
play our best at all times,” said Akmal.
Last year’s Cup runners-up England also arrived this
afternoon. England Captain Joshua Cobb
was pleased to be returning, saying:
“It is good to be back in Hong Kong. I didn't play much last
year but I am excited to be captaining the side this year and hopefully we can
go one better and win the tournament.
“We have a young and hungry team this year. They all have some
first class experience and will be looking to play well, enjoy themselves and
hopefully win. Twenty 20 will certainly help us in this format but there are a
lot of good players here, which is good for the tournament and good experience for
our players to play against,” concluded Cobb.
England tops Pool A alongside Australia, 3-time winners South
Africa and the hosts Hong Kong. Pakistan
faces Sri Lanka, India and leading Associate nation The Netherlands in Pool B.
England opens its Hong Kong Sixes account against old rivals
Australia at 11.30, before facing Hong Kong at 14.30 and South Africa, the
nation with the second most Sixes titles to its credit, at 16.00
In one of the most anticipated matches of the weekend, Pakistan
will face off against India at 15.15 on Saturday. Pakistan opens against the Netherlands at
12.15 and concludes day one action with a final match versus Sri Lanka at
16.45.
