Hong Kong travels to the UAE in March 2012 to play in the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier 2012 - a 16-team competition serving as an Associate level qualifiying event for the ICC Twenty20 World Cup to be played in Sri Lanka during September-October 2012. Hong Kong qualified for this tournament by virtue of their top three finish at the ACC Twenty20 Cup 2011 played in Nepal, where they were narrowly beaten by Afghanistan in the final.
For the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier, Hong Kong has been placed in Group A alongside Afghanistan, Netherlands, Canada, PNG, Bermuda, Denmark and Nepal. Group B features Ireland, Kenya, Scotland, Namibia, Uganda, Oman, Italy and USA.
