MALAYSIA WON BY 19 RUNS IN A CLOSE ENCOUNTER
Kuala Lumpur (7th July 2005): Malaysia won the first match against Hong Kong by 19 runs in the Tuanku Ja'afar Under 13 match played at the Kinrara Cricket Academy Oval, Puchong.
Winning the toss Hong Kong Captain Mark Chapman elected to field first. Malaysia were all out for a decent 153 in 35.5 overs. Malaysian skipper Keithen Goonasagaran played a very sensible knock of 54 runs from 74 balls with 5x4's. Keithen and Zubair Asyraf (15) took Malaysian total from 41 for 3 to 99 for 4. Later Nazirul Izudin (16) and Ahmad Husni (16) put up a good show with the bat for Malaysia. Mark Chapman bowled excellent line and length but was unfortunate to grab only one wicket. Vivek Manglani was impressive and took 3 wickets for just 17 runs.
Hong Kong lost Reshanga earlier but Aneesh Verma (20) and Vivek Manglani (20) scored briskly with 4.7 runs an over. Keithen managed to put brakes to the onslaught by removing Aneesh Verma, who miscued to the wicket keeper Mohd Hazim. Mark Chapman (23) slowly rebuilt the total for Hong Kong but off spinner Nazirul Izudin removed Vivek and Mark in quick sessions. Both the batsmen were bowled. Mithen Khatri (20) hammered some quick runs which included two huge sixes off Ahmad Zahid. Any way Ahmad Zahid had Mithen Khatri caught at deep midwicket trying to clear the boundary. Later Preveen Raj (3/17) ran through the tail to clinch a victory for Malaysia. Keithen Goonasagaran was declared man of the match.
Tomorrow Malaysia will meet Singapore at Kinrara Cricket Academy at 10 am.
