WEST INDIES SCORE AN EMPHATIC 84 RUNS VICTORY
The inevitable was delayed by a 72-runs partnership for the seventh wicket between skipper Khaled Mashud and Naimur Rahman. The two batsmen got together after Alok Kapali (12) was stumped by Jacobs off the bowling of Nagamootoo in the 28th over with the Bangladesh score in the 28th over. Vasbert Drakes put together a match winning bowling performance (9-4-18-4) as Bangladesh chasing 267 runs for a win were bowled out for 182 in 48 overs.

Rahman made 38 off 58 balls, striking five boundaries, before being run out by a good throw from Drakes. Mohammad Rafique was caught by Sarwan off Drakes for a duck. And two runs later, Cameron Cuffy cleaned up Khaled Mashud (41 off 65 balls) with a full-length delivery. The tall medium pacer finished off the Bangladesh innings, bowling last man Manjural Islam for a duck.

With this victory, West Indies take 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series.

VASBERT DRAKES STRIKES THRICE AT DHAKA
West Indies are well in command over Bangladesh in the second ODI being played at Dhaka. After setting Bangladesh an imposing target of 267 runs for a win, West Indies bowlers led by Vasbert Drakes (7-4-12-3) reduced the opposition to 89/5 at the end of the 25th over. Only a fighting knock of 44 off 74 balls by Mohammad Ashraful saved Bangladesh from being annihilated.

It was a disastrous start for the hosts, losing their opening batsman Al Sahariar for a duck to the first ball of their innings, Drakes slipping in a quick one through the defense to rattle the stumps. The big cheering crowd were stunned into silence by the fall of the first wicket, but they slowly became vociferous as Ashraful launched an attack on the extremely quick Jermaine Lawson. Ashraful hit four boundaries off Lawson, which included a glorious cover drive.

Ehsanul Haque (9) on his ODI debut - chipped the ball straight into the hands of Gayle at short mid-wicket to give Drakes his second wicket. Habibul Bashar’s stay at the crease lasted just one ball, cleaned up by Drakes. Bangladesh were reeling at 34/3 in the 9th over, with Drakes was on a hat-trick.

Sanwar Hossain (13) was trapped lbw by Lawson in the 17th over. And Ashraful’s fight was all over in the 24th over, cutting a short ball from Mahendra Nagamootoo straight into the hands of Hinds at backward point. Alok Kapali (10*) has skipper Khaled Mashud for company as Bangladesh look to avoid a heavy defeat.

SARWAN HITS HIS MAIDEN INTERNATIONAL TON
The moment finally arrived off the last ball of the 50th over, when Sarwan got a thick edge to the third-man fence for a four to bring up his maiden international hundred. For such a class act that he is, this has been such a long wait to get to the three-figure-mark in international cricket, having come so close to achieving the feat in the recent past. Sarwan had to live through a tense period in the final over, and almost choked till he found the streaky boundary off the last ball.

West Indies scored 189 runs in the second half of their innings, to take the score from 77/2 at the end of the 25th over to 266/4 at the end of the 50th over. With the ball keeping low, it is not going to be an easy run chase for Bangladesh batsmen. It was the superb partnership of 146 runs for the third wicket between Samuels and Sarwan that proved to be the telling factor in West Indies posting a big score.

Samuels was always on the look out for quick runs, and struck two huge sixes in his innings; lofting Alok Kapali over deep backward square leg, and then Ehsanul Haque over long on. Samuels was in fine touch and looked good for a century, but was bowled by a full toss from Naimur Rahman in the 39th over. His knock of 82 came in 119 balls, striking eight boundaries and two sixes.

In the meanwhile Sarwan kept gathering the runs in ones and twos. Ricardo Powell (10) did not last long; he was bowled by Ehsanul Haque. Sarwan found good support in Daren Ganga who remained unbeaten on 21 off 23 balls. In the end it was Sarwan's turn to be the hero, getting to his first ODI hundred to remain unbeaten on 102* (100 balls, 11 fours).

WEST INDIES STRUGGLE TO 77/2 AT DHAKA
After electing to bat, West Indies batsmen have found batting a very unpleasant experience on a track that is keeping low. Wavell Hinds was the first batsman to be dismissed, clearly undone by the lack of bounce, and trapped lbw for a duck by Tapash Baisya. Chris Gayle (21 off 43 balls) struck three boundaries before edging one from Manujral Islam to the wicket keeper.

Islam put together a good spell of ten overs at one go finishing with the impressive figures of 10-3-20-1. Marlon Samuels and Ramnaresh Sarwan too have found batting on this sub-standard track a very difficult task. At the end of the 25th over, West Indies have crawled on to 77 for the loss of two wickets.

Samuels started off very slowly and struck a glorious on drive for four through mid-on to step up the tempo. So far he has hit four boundaries in his unbeaten knock of 23 off 68 balls. Sarwan has been quick to use his feet to tackle the low bounce, and is unbeaten on 23 off 36 balls. The two batsmen have so far added 40 runs for the third wicket partnership.

WEST INDIES ELECT TO BAT AT DHAKA
Ridley Jacobs won the toss and decided to bat first against Bangladesh in the second ODI game of the series being played at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka. After the first game was washed out by rain, it is fine weather for this day-night encounter.

West Indies have made one change to their team; Cameron Cuffy comes in for Corey Collymore. Bangladesh have replaced Hannan Sarkar with Ehsanul Haque, making his ODI debut.
