Arnhem lost first double:
Union/Wanderers win by 106 runs
20 May 2001

After coffee time, the presidents of the Arnhem Football Club E.S.A. and C.C. Arnhem, opened the first season of C.C. Arnhem on the youngest cricketpitch in The Netherlands. Considering the somehow improvised move of the cricketclub, the pitch was already much better than with some clubs that had taken more time with their removal.

The new combination of Union C.C. of Nijmegen and Wanderers C.C. of Oss was sent in to face Arnhem's attack. Nawaz from the pavillion end, bowled two economic spells but wasn't given any reward. Union/Wanderers steadily built an impressive total with most batsmen going into double figures. 184 for the loss of 5 wickets. Hans took the two main wickets. Quite by surprise, he bowled them out! Arnhem bowled about 7 overs extra with wides and no balls.... Fielding was pretty decent for the most, however the team evidently lacked training. Most remarkable was the wedded bowlster and fielder Bogaard Duo. Inge took another two wickets with chubby hubby taking two pretty good catches off her bowling.

ESA had supplied an excellent lunch before it was our turn for a bit of a slog. Mark again saved the Arnhem innings, with Arie the only other batsman to retain calm and composure. A nice total of five ducks populated the Arnhem battingside... Apparently most of us are still reminiscing about the Overhagen ground with its ponds and creeks. In other words we were butchered but managed to almost triple the Hengelo total! 78 all out, as opposed to Hengelo's miserable 27 runs in Union's match prior to hammerring us. Allez, het viel best mee! Hoe is 't met je teen, Guus?
