Live Reports from previous days

PLAY ABANDONED ON DAY FOUR AT KINGSMEAD

Play on the fourth day of the first Castle Lager/MTN Test match between South Africa and Sri Lanka was finally abandoned at 3.30pm without a ball being bowled.

It had been hoped to start play at 1pm and then 2pm but on each occasion the drizzle resumed and with the weather closing in around Durban it was decided that no cricket was likely.

During the first three days of the match South Africa scored 420 and 47 for one with Sri Lanka making 216 in their first innings.

This is the second successive Test involving South Africa during which the weather has played a part. Only two days’ play were possible during the third Test match against New Zealand at the Wanderers at the beginning of the month.

After Saturday’s fifth day, the second Test match will start at Newlands on January 2.

DRIZZLE DELAYS START OF FOURTH DAY AT KINGSMEAD

Drizzle over Kingsmead delayed the start of play on the fourth morning of the first Castle Lager/MTN Test match between South Africa and Sri Lanka on Friday.

With intermittent showers forecast for the region, the prospects of any play whatsoever did not seem good although official from the KwaZulu-Natal Cricket Association were hopeful that the weather would lift.

At the close of the third day, South Africa were 47 for one in their second innings for an overall lead of 251.
