Ireland v Scotland The Electronic Telegraph - 21-23 August 1999 Day 3: Ireland made to wait Ireland (270 & 42-6) bt Scotland (156 & 155) by four wickets Ireland were made to sweat before recording a four-wicket victory against Scotland here yesterday. Needing just 37 for victory with nine wickets in hand, they scraped home shortly after midday after an astonishing morning. Resuming at five for one, Ireland added a single when Peter Davy was trapped leg before by Asim Butt in the first over. Barry Archer was taken neatly behind by Euan Stubbs off James Brinkley in the next over and some Scottish followers recalled when Scotland bowled out their rivals for 25 in 1965. Ireland captain Angus Dunlop, and Peter Gillespie, took the score to 29 before dragging Butt to long-leg, where Neil MacRae held the catch. Peter Shields was trapped lbw by Brinkley two runs later then Gillespie was brilliantly caught by Drew Parsons at third slip, leaping high to his right to hold an edge induced by Butt to reduce Ireland to 37 for six. Paul Mooney then drove the second ball of Brinkley's 11th over through extra cover for four to settle the issue. INT'L MATCH (Belfast).- Scotland 156 & 155 (N MacRae 47; Mooney 4-12, Davey 3-33); Ireland 270 & 42-6 (Brinkley 3-17, Butt 3-20).
