Devon v Worcestershire, NatWest Trophy The Electronic Telegraph - 23 June 1999 Openers show Worcestershire way Having lost to Scotland 12 months ago, Worcestershire were in no mood to slip up again against Devon in the third round of the NatWest Trophy yesterday. A determined opening stand of 115 between Paul Pollard and Reuben Spiring occupied most of the first 30 overs at Exmouth but also set the platform for a useful total of 256 for eight. That was always going to take some getting, and Stuart Lampitt and Richard Illingworth made Devon's task harder with some tight bowling in the first 25 overs. A lively 54 off 43 balls earned Andy Pugh the man of the match award and gave Devon hope, but the damage had been done well before he went in to bat at second wicket down and the hosts fell 45 runs short.
