Derbyshire v Somerset, National League 2nd Division DJ Rutnagur at Derby - 12 August 1999 Somerset sail on Somerset (160-5) bt Derbys (158-8) by 5 wkts Winning the toss and bowling first gave top-of-the-table Somerset an advantage which was almost decisive as they secured their 13th win in 14 one-day matches this season, with 14.4 overs to spare. Considering that Derbyshire - who had seven men out injured - were 17 for four at one stage and then 57 for six, they did well to stretch their opponents as far as they did. Andy Caddick and Graham Rose made the first inroads into Derbyshire's batting, on a pitch which provided generous lateral movement and lively bounce. Then Keith Parsons struck twice before Derbyshire put together a seventh-wicket partnership between Ian Blackwell, top-scorer with 35, and Phillip DeFreitas. They put on 53 and the recovery was sustained by an unfinished stand between Karl Krikken and Paul Aldred, who added 39 from the last eight overs. Somerset were given a rollicking start of 67 in 11 overs by Peter Bowler and Jamie Cox, before three wickets fell in four overs. Michael Burns, who made 50, and Marcus Trescothick had to buckle down to get the innings back on the rails.
