Northamptonshire v Nottinghamshire, National League Second Division, Round 10 Christopher Lyles - 04 July 1999 Northants overcome interruptions Northants (182-5) bt Notts (118-9) by 17 runs (D/L method) The elements are proving to be quite a thorn in the side of Northamptonshire's quest to climb out of the National League second division. After the abandoment of their match at Hove last Monday, rain interrupted proceedings twice yesterday, though they eventually won by 17 runs under the Duckworth/Lewis method. The first stoppage occurred in the 25th over after Northamptonshire had careered along to 127 for three on a true pitch. With Graeme Swann unbeaten on 47 and with wickets in hand, a total in excess of 250 seemed likely. But Swann perished immediately upon the resumption of what had become a 31-over match. Thereafter, Tony Penberthy hit a pugnacious 33 from 19 balls to raise the total to 182 and leave Nottinghamshire a target of 210 in their 31 overs. A further shower drove the teams off, with Notts on 52 for two after eight overs, and a revision of the required total to 136 from 17 overs - or 84 from the nine available - proved just too elusive.
