Somerset v Derbyshire, National League 2nd Division, 1999 Richard Bright - 19 June 1999 Holloway in control Somerset (247-4) bt Derbyshire (243-7) by 6 wkts Piran Holloway led Somerset to the top of the CGU National League Second Division with a superb 94 not out against Derbyshire at Taunton. The Cornish-born left-hander struck 10 fours and a six from 112 balls as Somerset reached their target of 244 with six wickets and 16 deliveries to spare. It was Holloway's fourth half-century from six National League innings, figures which contrast sharply with his championship form where he has only reached double figures once in his last 11 visits to the crease. Somerset were also indebted to captain Jamie Cox, whose 78 from 67 deliveries ensured that his side's sixth win from six games was rarely in doubt. Matthew Cassar's 103 and Ian Blackwell's 78 had earlier rescued the Derbyshire innings from the depths of 40 for four in the 15th over. They put on 138 in 23 overs for the fifth wicket after the top order had been blitzed by Andrew Caddick, who is hoping for an England recall against his native New Zealand. Caddick finished with three for 16 off nine overs. After the early loss of Bowler in reply, Cox treated the Taunton crowd to some dazzling stroke play before Holloway ultimately took charge. Somerset were always up with the asking rate and after Rob Turner departed lbw for 20 Holloway and Keith Parsons sealed the win with an unbroken partnership of 51. Holloway reached his fifty with a sweep off Roberts to the square-leg boundary and later struck the winning runs with a boundary to the same area.
