FARIDABAD, 13 January : A blistering 97 off 47 deliveries by Salil Ankola and an equally powerful 103 by Madan Lal and their match winning opening wicket partnership of 134 runs helped India Seniors beat South Africa Seniors by 63 runs at the Nahar Singh stadium today.

The Victory enabled the Indian team to take a 2-1 lead in the four match series. the fourth and final match will be played at Bangalore on Friday.

The Indian Seniors piled up 324 for four in their allotted 40 overs and in reply South Africa Seniors were dismissed for 261 in 37.2 overs.

Playing in front of a large gathering at the newly-renovated stadium, Madan Lal and Ankola treated the mediocre South Africa attack with disdain and scored runs at will. Their century-plus stand was broken when Ankola was taken by Michau off Wright with the former India medium-pacer three runs short of his century. but Madan Lal went on to complete his century with help from Chandrakant Pandit (64). Skipper Sandip Patil contributed a useful 29 before he was run out. Madal Lal and Ashok Malhotra (18) put on 44 for the second wicket while Madan and Pandit were involved in a 68-run partnership for the third wicket when Madan fell.

The imposing Indian total proved too much for the visitors who lost the first three wickets for only 52 runs. They partially recovered through one drop Michau (68), Strydom (27) and Majiet (45). Leg-spinner Suru Nayak was the most successful bowler claiming three wickets while Chetan Sharma and Ankola chipped in with two apiece.
