Baroda, Jan 11: A 178 run opening wicket stand between skipper Henry Fortheringham (95) and Omar Henry (72) followed by fine bowling by F Davids (3/32) and P Rawson (2/61) enabled South Africa Seniors score a 60 run win over their Indian counterparts here today.
The victory at the IPCL Grounds helped the visitors level the score 1-1 after the India Seniors won the opening match of the four-match one-day series in Mumbai last week.
Batting first after winning the toss South Africa filed up 266 runs in the allotted 40 overs and then restricted the hosts to 226 for seven in the allotted overs.
The South African skipper's knock contained 11 fours and two sixes while his opening wicket partner hit seven fours and two sixes. The other batsman to make a decent score was Kevin Verdoorn with 67 runs.
For India Suru Nayak and Ashok Malhotra claimed three wickets for 59 runs and two for 26 runs respectively.
India started disastrously losing Roger Binny and Syed Kirmani quickely and was not able to recover from it though Malhotra (67) hit some magnificient boundaries and two sixes later in the innings to stage an Indian come back.
Sandip Patil (43) and Yashpal Sharma (32 not out) provided some fire-works in the later part of the innings but that was not enough as India could make only 226.
