Zimbabwe Academy vs. Denmark (Highlands Country Club)
Ole Mortensen - 14 March 1999

CricInfo report

The third match in three days was against Zimbabwe Cricket Acadamy (ZCA) played at the Country Club ground of Highlands C.C. A quaint ground encircled by a golf club. Denmark lost the toss for a change and ZCA decided to bat first.

Dennis Zachariasson was drafted into the side for the first time as Amjad ``Billy'' Khan had problems with his back and Dennis together with Thomas Hansen opened the bowling. Thomas started with a bang, trapping new star Marillier lbw with the first ball of the match. The Danes kept up the pressure and after the first 17 overs ZCA had only managed 59-4. But then T. Madondo, who has played for Zimbabwe, had planned otherwise. Madondo who bats like Carl Hooper of WI, capitalised on the Danish fielders growing tiredness, especially in the inner-circle and the scoring-rate improved. However just after the second drinks break after 34 overs Madondo had a lack of concentration and was caught and bowled by Lars Hedegaard much to the disgust of the ZCA coach. Captain Peer Jensen was forced to leave the field after bowling 7.5 overs for 28 runs with a muscle strain. This turned out to be Peer's last match for Denmark, ending a career of 53 matches for Denmark. Thank you Peer especially for your batting performances. Madondo top-scored with 63 runs in ZCA's innings of 165 all out, about 25 runs too many when one takes Denmark's fielding performance into account.

Carsten Pedersen and Bajit Singh opened the batting for third time and for the third time Carsten was trapped lbw. A closer look at Carsten discovered that he is falling to the off-side when playing on the front foot. In other words he is out of balance and a correction in his stance together with his backlift is needed. Bajit Singh and Aftab Ahmed came together and they bat the innings out. Aftab was dropped twice though. We think he is using too heavy a bat. Bajit topscores with 87no. and Aftab with 41 no.
