Matabeleland v Denmark (Good Hope C.C.) Ole Mortensen - 19 March 1999 CricInfo report The last match of the tour was against Matabeland Districts, who had two days before, lost a close game to C.C.C. XI. Matabeland were without their normal two opening bowlers, Heath Streak and Henry Olunga, who both are with Zimbabwe in Bangladesh. Denmark lost toss and were put in to bat. Denmark used the same combination as the day before with Bajit Singh and Peter Thomson the openers. After eight overs Peter is unfortunate enough to edge a shot ball up into his face (Peter did not wear a helmet) and he was unable to play in the rest of the match. (He was forced to stay in bed the next day until the Danes flew home) Jan Overgaard came in and grabbed his chance to take over together with Carsten Pedersen. These two showed how to play cricket the rest of the innings, where bad deliveries were punished accordingly and the running between wickets was a joy to watch. Jan was caught lbw one short of his century and Carsten ended up 85no. Thomas Hansen did not this time open the bowling. During warm-up practice prior to fielding Thomas was hit below the eye and needed treatment. Dennis and Amjad ``Billy'' Khan opened the bowling. Amjad turned out to be too fast for Matabeland bowling nine consecutive overs for 20 runs taking four wickets, three of which were cleaned bowled. Only M.Dekker and J.Rennie showed any resistance, but Klitgaard cleaned up the innings with three quick wickets. Matabeland only managed 87 runs in their innings giving Denmark victory by 198 runs.
