Mashonaland Districts v Denmark (Harare South CC) Ole Mortensen - 13 March 1999 CricInfo report The second tour match took us to Harare South C.C: against Mashonaland Districts on a ground that takes one back to the colonial times. England A were supposed to have played here but that match was rained off. Denmark won the toss again and this time elected to bat on a pitch that looked like a billiard table and an outfield like in top class cricket in Denmark. Carsten Pedersen and Bajit Singh laid the foundation for a good innings. Carsten was yet again given out lbw at 81 after scoring 41. Peter Thomsen could not time the ball and was caught after scoring 15 for 41 deliveries! Aftab Ahmed started tentatively and spasmodic causing the run-rate to drop. Both batsmen failed to run aggressively and score the ones and twos. The arrival of Saddique changed this and Denmark ended in scoring 232 for five with Aftab getting 55 and Saddique 53 not out. Denmark's bowling pair of Hansen and ``Billy'' Khan yet again caused problems for the batsmen. Especially, Khan with his speed exploited the lively pitch giving the batsmen plenty to think about. Both openers were bowled by ``Billy'', the first with the ``quick one'', the second by the slower one using a five-finger grip. Amjad ``Billy'' Khan was forced to leave the field after bowling seven consecutive overs for 20 runs with back problems, which kept him out of the next two matches. Th. Hansen was also very economic with his bowling giving away only nine runs off his 7.2 overs, taking two wickets, one of which demonstrated the agility of wicket-keeper Mohammed Saddique taking a diving catch. This piece of fielding lifted the morale and fielding was much improved compared to the day before. Both Morten Hedegaard (37-3) and Peer Jensen (34-1) bowled well. Mashonaland Districts managed a score of 174 all out giving Denmark a victory of 58 runs. Man of match was Mohammed Saddique.
