(AFP) Hansie Cronje led from the front as South Africa lifted the Wills International Cup with a four-wicket win over the West Indies in the final at Dhaka on Sunday 1st November 1998. Cronje took two wickets in the West Indian score of 245 and then scored 61 not out to steer South Africa out of trouble and cruise home with 18 balls to spare. More...

Cronje continues travels in triumph

(Electronic Telegraph) SOUTH AFRICA showed what a formidable force they will be in next year's World Cup by winning their second major one-day trophy in a matter of weeks. They went to the Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur in September for the glory alone and came away with the gold medal. Here in Bangladesh they picked up prize money totalling £75,000 for beating West Indies (who took £50,000) by four wickets with three overs to spare in the final of the knock-out Wills International Cup. Chanderpaul powers West Indies into final

[The Hindu] The last Asian team in the running for the Wills International Cup was thrown out of the event on Saturday night. The men in shiny maroon came up with a superior display to oust the Indians and set up a clash against South Africa the final. The West Indies skipper Brian Lara played himself in for two hours, handled the spinners with soft hands and made a solid half century. His partner in the middle was Keith Arthurton. The two left handers forged an 89 run stand for the fifth wicket to place their team in the Cup final of the nine-nation tournament.
