Result: Tamil Nadu won by 36 runs and gained 2 points
India's former off-spinner, Venkataramana broke Hyderabad's back by
picking up three vital wickets in his spell of 7 overs. He came on to
bowl in the 16th over with Hyderabad at 43 for 2, and accounted for
Pratap (14) penetrating his forward defence, and castling his
off-stump. Next he got the verdict against Nandakishore (5) to send
him back, rapping him on the pads. To top it all, Venkataramana sent
back Santosh Yadav (0) beating him all ends up, his wicket to wicket
spell of (2.5-0-8-3) between his 3rd and 6th over spelt doom for
Hyderabad.
The lone late-order charge came from the number nine batsman, Shivaji
Yadav's (59). He added 46 runs for the eight wicket with Pawan Kumar
in 62 balls, and 49 runs for the ninth wicket with Narenderpal Singh
in 44 balls, before his stumps were disturbed by Mahesh.
Earlier, put in to bat Tamil Nadu lost an early wicket in the shape of
WV Raman (1). Opener Ramesh had two useful partnership, first with
Sriram (12) worth 46 runs, for the second wicket in 78 balls; and 108
runs in 136 balls for the third wicket with Skipper Sharath (69).
Ramesh was unluckly to miss century by 6 runs when he was caught by
Nandakishore off the bowling of Vanka Pratap, his attractive innings
was decorated with the help of a fine 6 off Noel David besides eight
brilliantly struck fours.
