Punjab v Haryana (Ranji One-day, North Zone)
Rakesh Sanghi, CricInfo
19 November 1998
Navjot Singh Sidhu's masterly 77 helped Punjab to beat Haryana by 5
wickets in the crucial North Zone Ranji One-day League match at Gandhi
Stadium, in Amritsar.
Chasing Haryana's 230 for nine in 50 overs, Punjab coasted to victory
with 16 balls to spare. The end came swiftly with Punjab's Harminder
Jugnu hoisting Haryana seamer Harvinder Sharma for two sixes off
consecutive no-balls. This victory qualifies Punjab for next year's
Wills Trophy. Punjab has seven points at the end of the League phase.
Haryana, Delhi, and Services all knotted at five points from four
matches.
Punjab is through since it has beaten both Delhi and Haryana in their
respective head-to-head encounters. Services is too far behind on the
run rate to catch up with Punjab. Earlier it was Jadeja's electrifying
63 and useful half-centuries by opener Parinder Sharma and Dhanraj
Singh that helped Haryana to pose fairly challenging total.
