Rajasthan v Uttar Pradesh (Ranji One-day, Central Zone)

O P Sharma, CricInfo
6 November 1998

In the Ranji One-Day match at Mansarover Stadium, Jaipur, Gagan Khoda answered his critics by stroking a magnificient 126 for Rajasthan. It proved insufficient as Uttar Pradesh, ably backing their bowlers with some marvellous fielding, won the match by two runs, with two balls to spare.

Earlier, Rajasthan's new captain Aashish Kapoor, appointed in place of Gagan Khoda, who requested the RCA selectors to free him from the burden of captaincy, won the toss and elected to field. Uttar Pradesh began their innings in terrible fashion, losing seven wickets for only 80 runs. The Mohammed brothers, Saif and Kaif, came to the rescue by adding 163 runs in an unbroken eight-wicket partnership.

Rajasthan's reply was built around Gagan Khoda's innings. Once he departed, Rajasthan never looked in the match. Mohammad Kaif, a part-time bowler at best, now shone with the ball, taking four wickets, and Uttar Pradesh scraped home.
