Andhra v Kerala (Ranji, South Zone)
Robert Giddick, CricInfo
15-18 November 1998
Day 3 Report
Vizianagaram,
Under bright and sunny condtions, play finally got underway at the
Vizzy Stadium. Andhra skipper Amit Pathak did his side a favour by
winning the toss and inserted the opposition.
His decision proved the right one when Kerala lost two early wickets
in Harikrishnan (2nd over, 0 for 1) and captain Ananthapadmanabhan
(4), and were at this stage 2 for 4 in the 6th over. Andhra pacers
Ramkishen and Madhusudana Raju picked up both the wickets in a similar
fashion, both the batsman caught at second slip by Venugopala Rao.
Kerala went into lunch at 67 for 3 having lost the wicket of Sunil
Oasis in addition.
Kerala's recovery was engineered by opener S Shanker who batted
doggedly for his 23, along with wicket-keeper Kamaruddin with a solid
unbeaten knock of 55, and hard-hitting Chandrasekhara (38 not out). At
close of play, Kerala were placed comfortably at 195/6. With tommorow
being the final day, an early declaration by Kerala will put slight
pressure to Andhra.
