Day 1: Sidhu scores ton to keep TN at bay

AMRITSAR - Navjot Sidhu scored his 10th century in Ranji Trophy to take Punjab to 251/8 on the opening day of the Quarter Final against Tamil Nadu at the Gandhi Stadium.

Electing to bat, Punjab was strugling at 51 for 3 after medium pacer S. Mahesh (four for 62) sent back skipper Vikram Rathour, Sandeep Sharma and Pankaj Dharmani in quick succession. Thereafter a 96 run stand between Sidhu and Dinesh Mongia saw Punjab's total gain respectibility.

The fall of D Mongia, Amit Sharma, and Harminder Jugnu reduced Punjab to 172 for 6 at tea. In the final session, Punjab were kept afloat, with Sidhu (124, 11x4, 1x6) and Sarandeep singh putting on 67 runs for the seventh wicket. At close, Harbhajan Singh (10) and Navdeep Singh (0) were at the crease.
