Date-stamped : 13 Aug97 - 10:50 Pakistanis are hit for six by Bailey By Peter Deeley at Northampton Northants (300-5) beat Paki-stan A (240) by 60 runs ROB BAILEY put aside the cares of a difficult season`s cap- taincy with an ebullient unbeaten 153 which ensured the tourists suffered the only one-day defeat of their tour. Last month, Northamptonshire had to quash rumours that Bailey was to be replaced as a result of the county`s poor all-round season. There were few signs of anxiety yesterday, however, as he scored his runs off 113 balls with 15 boundaries and five six- es. Pakistan, who had previously beaten two county sides in limit- ed-overs competition, could only blame themselves for facing a daunting target of 301 in 46 overs: they were penalised the other four overs for their slow bowling rate. Even so, they set off at a blistering pace, Salim Elahi, the Test batsman, and Mujahid Jamshed putting on 53 in six overs. Elahi hit nine boundaries, scoring 41 off only 22 balls, but then he tamely chipped Kevin Innes to midwicket. With his dismissal, only Mohammad Wasim, the tourists` cap- tain, presented any threat before he was eighth out for 59.
