Date-stamped : 31 Aug97 - 02:08 30 August 1997 Naming of 14th player being delayed By Our Sports Reporter KARACHI, Aug 29:The selectors are unnecessarily delaying the announcement of a 14th member of the Sahara Cup team as they still have two pacers who have excelled in the domestic circuit. National Bank's Athar Laiq captured 38 wickets in the 1996-97 season while United Bank's Ali Gohar claimed 47 wickets. At a time when domestic performances helped Aqib Javed and Kabir Khan regain their lost places, it would be unjustified to the two experienced pacers to be denied with a chance. The selectors, instead, are banking on Shahid Nazir and Mohammad Akram who have not only failed to justify their potential at the highest level, are also struggling with injuries. Athar Laiq, a former Pakistan Under-19 bowler, snapped up 21 wickets in the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy at 21.28 while added another 17 wickets in the Patron's Trophy at 30.7. Ali Gohar, who is not only fast but also accurate, grabbed 36 wickets in the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy at 22.94 and added another 16 in the Patron's Trophy at 22.12.
