Date-stamped : 03 May97 - 06:14 Kent v Sussex Kent (154-4) bt Sussex (153) by 6 wkts THERE are landslides and landslides. In the light of overnight events, Kent`s untroubled victory at Canterbury was perhaps but a ripple yet, reducing Sussex to 60 for six, they had effectively won a tame contest inside the first two hours, writes Neville Scott. On a quick pitch with a little uneven tufted grass, Kent seamers, gold award winner Dean Headley the best of them, repeatedly peppered batsmen`s thighs with off- cutters before Paul Strang, aided by superb catching, claimed four wickets. Only the keen-hitting Paul Jarvis, last out, who passed a maiden one-day fifty on his way to 63 from 61 balls, even threatened a defendable total though few counties, in truth, would have prospered against such a formidably tight all round attack in the conditions. With Sussex`s early bowling inaccurate, a Kent collapse was never remotely likely and Matthew Walker, opening, stayed to hit the winning runs. His astute 69 from 113 balls brought the in-form left-hander his fourth one-day fifty in as many innings this season.
