Younis, a veteran of 46 Tests in which he has bagged 231 wickets, was surprisingly left out from the first Test which Pakistan won by an innings and 19 runs. The selectors have picked Younis in place of Shahid Nazir who had the wickets of Stuart Williams and Shivnarine Chanderpaul in the first innings of the Peshawar Test last week. But his inability to penetrate when the wicket eased out on the third day followed by a bruised toe led to his downfall.

The selectors have also named an uncapped Shoaib Akhtar, Rawalpindi-born boy who represents ADBP in the Patron's Trophy. The tall pacer has been preferred over Arshad Khan who made his unimpressive Test debut at Peshawar. Khan bowled only 10 overs in the match conceding 32 runs. Akhtar was also selected for September's Sahara Cup in Canada against India but was dropped prior to the announcement of the team on the recommendation of Justice Ijaz Yousuf.

Justice Yousuf, who managed the Pakistan A team to England in summer, had submitted an adverse complaint against Shoaib Akhtar who was also on the tour. Justice Yousuf had reportedly informed the cricket authorities that Akhtar was more active in off-the-field activities rather than concentrating on on-the-field. Unlike the Zeeshan Pervaiz scenario when the batsman was banned for two years by the PCB despite being acquitted by the Jamaican High Court, Akhtar was penalised for only one tour. The inclusion of Waqar Younis and Shoaib Akhtar is a clear indication that the wicket prepared for the second Test will be more greener and bouncier as promised earlier. Rashid Latif was also tipped to be named in the party but the selectors kept their faith in Moin Khan, the little fighter, who scored a priceless 58 in Pakistan's 381. He, however, couldn't keep wickets in West Indies' second innings as he was nursing injuries on his left wrist and left shoulder.

The selectors have also named an unchanged top order batting which gives another opportunity to Aamir Sohail and Mohammad Wasim to score runs and cement their places for the future challenges. Sohail scored 4 and Wasim 28 at Peshawar. Inzamamul Haq, like Moin Khan, was also given a clean bill of health by team physiotherapist Dr Dan Keisal. Inzamam was hit twice on the left leg - once while fielding and the other while batting. The 13-member team is: Wasim Akram (captain), Saeed Anwar, Aamir Sohail, Ijaz Ahmad, Inzamamul Haq, Mohammad Wasim, Moin Khan, Azhar Mahmood, Waqar Younis, Mushtaq Ahmad, Saqlain Mushtaq, Shoaib Akhtar and Ali Naqvi.
