The on-field umpire shall be entitled to call for a TV replay to assist him in making a decision about whether the fieldsman had any part of his person in contact with the ball when he touched the or crossed the boundary line, or to ascertain whether a ball having been hit through the air and landing in close proximity to the boundary, landed within or over the boundary.
In the event of the on-field umpire wishing to convey to the TV umpire precisely what it is he is seeking clarification on, he will communicate his request by utilising the two-way radio transceiver. The TV umpire must communicate his decision to the on-field umpire with the use of lights, and in addition, confirm his decision by means of the two-way radio transceiver.
Boundary decisions or allocations in which the TV umpire may be requested to adjudicate upon can be placed in the following categories and dealt with in the manner as prescribed below:-
1. | In the case of a fielder being in close proximity to the boundary when fielding a catch, to ascertain: |
| (a) | Whether the fielder completed the catch within the field of play, in which case the decision is "out", or |
| (b) | Whether some part of the fielders person was in contact with the boundary in effecting the catch, in which case the decision is an award of "6 runs". |
| The decision is relayed to the on-field umpire as follows:- |
| (a) | Batsman "out" - | red light, or |
| (b) | Batsman awarded "6 runs" - | green light flashes 6 times. |
| The on-field umpire acknowledges the signal by:- |
| (a) | Batsman "out" - | raises index finger, or |
| (b) | Batsman awarded "6 runs" - | signals 6 runs to the scorers. |
| In the event of the replay being inconclusive, the decision shall be an award of 6 runs. |
2. | To determine whether a fielder in fielding a ball which was hit along the ground:- |
| (a) | Had some part of his person touching the boundary in the act of fielding the ball, in which case "4 runs" shall be awarded, or |
| (b) | Had no part of his person touch the boundary in preventing the ball from reaching the boundary, in which case "the number of runs completed" shall be awarded. |
| The decision is relayed to the on-field umpire as follows:- |
| (a) | Batsman awarded "4 runs" - | green light flashes 4 times, or |
| (b) | Prevention of a boundary - | green light flashes number of runs completed. |
| The on-field umpire acknowledges the signal by:- |
| (a) | Batsman awarded "4 runs" - | signals boundary 4 to scorers, or |
| (b) | Prevention of boundary - | signals number of runs completed. |
| In the event of the replay being inconclusive, the decision shall be the number of runs completed. |
3. | In the case of a ball having been hit through the air and landing in close proximity to the boundary, to ascertain:- |
| (a) | Whether the ball landed over the boundary - | "6 runs", or |
| (b) | Whether the ball first landed within the boundary - | "4 runs". |
| The decision is relayed to the on-field umpire, as follows:- |
| (a) | Batsman awarded "6 runs" - | green light flashes 6 times, or |
| (b) | Batsman awarded "4 runs" - | green light flashes 4 times. |
| The on-field umpire acknowledges the signal by:- |
| (a) | Batsman awarded "6 runs" - | signals 6 runs to the scorers, or |
| (b) | Batsman awarded "4 runs" - | signals 4 runs to the scorers. |
| In the event of the replay being inconclusive, the decision shall be an award of "4 runs". |
The third umpire may initiate contact with the on-field umpire by two-way radio if TV coverage shows a boundary line infringement.
