According to information reaching the Gleaner, the West Indies selectors have asked the Jamaica selectors not to include the big fast bowler in the team and they have agreed.
The find of the Indian series last year, Rose has never played against England, and in a strategic move, the Windies selectors apparently do not want to give the England batsmen a look at him before Test match time.
The first Test between the West Indies and England will be played at Sabina Park starting on Thursday, January 29.
Although Rose has played in the English league and in festival-type matches in England, he is an unknown quantity as far as England's Test batsmen are concerned, and the strategy is to keep him away from them so that they do not become accustomed to his rhythm, pace and bounce.
Rose, who took five wickets in the second innings, was impressive against Barbados in the opening round of the President's Cup - especially with his speed through the air.
Courtney Walsh will also be missing from the Jarrett Park match. The veteran fast bowler, who was voted the West Indies man of the series against Pakistan and who pocketed 10 wickets against Barbados, will be taking a rest - obviously in preparation for the first Test against England.
In Walsh's absence, Jamaica will be led, for the first time, by West Indies ``A'' captain James Adams who, along with Robert Samuels, Laurie Williams, Leon Garrick and Wavell Hinds, missed the Barbados match after arriving home from South Africa one day after the game had started.
Offspinner Nehemiah Perry, who played against Barbados, and fast bowler Patrick Patterson, who was in the 13-man squad, are unlikely to be in the squad for the Jarrett Park match - Perry because he is suffering from a thigh injury, and Patterson because he has not fully recovered from the calf muscle strain which ruled him out of the Barbados match.
It is understood that wicketkeeper Andre Coley who was injured on the final day of the Barbados game on Monday is recovering well and is expected to play.
The 14 players who will be in the nets today are James Adams captain, Robert Samuels, Leon Garrick, Wavell Hinds, Laurie Williams, Carl Wright, Gareth Breese, Mario Ventura, Tony Powell, Ricardo Powell, Andre Coley, Brian Murphy, Kirk Powell, and Oneil Richards.
