Date-stamped : 07 May96 - 22:14 Benson & Hedges Cup 1996 Middlesex v Glamorgan Lord's, London 7 May 1996 ====> REPORT Maynard in record form By D. J. Rutnagur at Lord`s Glamorgan (265-4) bt Middlesex (263) by 6 wkts MATTHEW Maynard registered the highest score by a Glamorgan player in the competition and steered the Welsh county to a win which, although completed with just seven balls to spare, had for long seemed inevitable. Coming in at 25 for two, Maynard remained unbeaten with 151, scored off 119 balls, with 11 fours and four sixes. His ally in wresting the initiative from Middlesex was Adrian Dale, who had already left his mark by claiming five wickets for 41. Maynard and Dale, who made 42, added 137 in 23 overs. Glamorgan still needed 102 runs from 17 overs when they were parted, but the diminutive Tony Cottey worked assiduously to provide his rampant captain with the strike and Glamorgan were never stretched. Middlesex were given an encouraging start of 71 in 17 overs by a delightfully fluent Paul Weekes and the uncapped Jason Harrison and their frontline batsmen all got entrenched. Yet Jason Pooley`s 50, off 52 balls, was the top score. Source :: Electronic Telegraph (http.//www.telegraph.co.uk) Contributed by Shash (shs2@*.cwru.edu)
