Rain a spoiler at Bambalapitiya
The early morning rains, put paid to what might have been a promising result in the Thomian-Peterite cricket encounter, where play was possible only at 4 pm and petered out to an inevitably draw, after half an hours batting at Bambalapitiya yesterday.
After S. Thomas who made a formidable score of 300 for 3 and declared before ten on day one, went on to consolidate their strong position to account for 5 Peterite wickets for 84 continuing on day 2 play was possible only at 4 pm in which pacemen Ratwatte and Amila Ratwatte continuing in the same rain got rid of the tail quickly for 110. The Peterites following on with 190 run deficit at 4.15, lost their first wicket at 9, and with the light deteriorating the game was abandoned as a draw.

Wattala Antonians do well
Wattala Antonians did well to make 229 for 6 at close in reply to Bloomfield's 389 in their Saravanamuttu Trophy (Segment 'A') cricket tournament match at Reid Avenue yesterday. The highlight of the day's play was Ruchira Palliyaguru completed a fine 117 with 17 fours and five sixes for Bloomfield, and Thushara Kodikara's 88 with 10 boundaries and three sixes for the Antonians.

Bad light and rain spoil Royal's chances By Lal Gunesekera
Rain and bad light put paid to any chances that Royal could have enjoyed to beat Trinity in their schools cricket match which was finally left drawn at Reid Avenue yesterday. Trinity were yet 23 runs behind Royal's 229 in their follow-on with five wickets remaining when bad light stopped play after nine mandatory overs. Trinity were dismissed for 108 in their first innings.
Trinity who were 53 for 3 overnight, added only 55 runs after the game started 3 1/2 hours late due to rain. Rodney Raffayal who was on 40, went on to make 62 with 11 boundaries and put on 45 valuable runs for the fourth wicket with D. Weeraratne (11).
The two Royal bowlers who did the damage were paceman Anuk Samarakkody (4 for 25 in 13 overs) and Thusan Amarasuriya (2 for 14).
Trinity in their second turn were 98 for 5 in 37 overs when bad light halted play.

Rain washes out play
RAIN WHICH fell on the entire day washed out any chances of play on the second day of the inter-school cricket match between St. Anthony's College, and St. Sebastians College, Moratuwa which ended in a draw at Katugastota yesterday.

OLD TRINITIANS Sports Club, Kandy entered the semi-finals of the Board of Control's Division III Cricket tournament when they beat Anuradhapura Cricket Club by four wickets in the quarter finals played at the Asgiriya Stadium.

Sri Rahula force draw
A CAPTAIN'S knock of 97 with 14 fours by Gamini Bandara helped Sri Rahula College, Katugastota to force a draw in their Coca Cola Bottlers trophy cricket match against Raddoluwa Maha Vidyalaya on Friday.
Sri Rahula College who were forced to follow on with 170 with 170 behind were all out for 186 in the last over of the match which left Raddoluwa MV with no time to get the 27 runs required to win.

Match called off
RAIN DEPRIVED St. Sylvester's College, Kandy of a chance of an outright win in their inter-school cricket match against Carey College, Colombo which ended in a draw at Peradeniya yesterday on Saturday.
In reply to Sylvestrian's total of 322 for 7 declared Carey were in a bad way with the score board reading 74 for 6 at the end of the first day's play. But rain on the second day prevented any play and the match was called off after lunch.
