Isipatana Maha Vidyalaya with a well balanced side is determined to put up a good performance when they meet their traditional rivals Thurstan College in their 34th annual cricket encounter on March 7 and 8 at the P.Saravanamuttu Stadium.

Isipatana have maintained an unbeaten record in the current season and will have the services of two senior players namely skipper Suresh Perera and vice captain Kanchana Madugalle. But they will certainly feel the absence of left arm bowler Nuwan Soysa who is currently on national duty in New Zealand.

Despite this Isipatana have performed well in the current season and look set to continue with their excellent form. Skipper Suresh Perera has led the way with a fine performance having al- ready compiled over 850 runs this year. He has two centuries to his credit against Maris Stella College, Negombo (105) and De Mazenod College, Kandana (151). In addition he scored another half century in the game against Royal. He has also turned out to be a useful bowler having captured over 45 wickets.

Vice captain Kanchana Madugalle too has lived up to expectations and has excelled as an all rounder. He has collected over 500 runs in the current season with the help of four half centuries. He has also spearheaded their attack quite successfully and has captured over 35 wickets from 14 outings.

Rangana Fernando and Amal Wanigasekera are the two openers who have performed extremely well in the current season. The former has over 700 runs to his credit including a century against St. Sylvester's College, Kandy. He has been quite consistent in the current season and has crossed the half century mark on five occasions.

Amal Wanigasekera has always played the supporting role and is quite confident of putting up a good performance in this 'Big Match'. He has compiled over 400 runs and has also captured over 35 wickets in the current season.

Among the newcomers leg spinner Vidura Nuwan has been really outstanding with a rich haul of 46 wickets. He had a memorable match against Wesley where he returned career best figures of 8 for 22 in the first innings. In addition Muditha Fernando too has shown a lot of promise while compiling three good half centuries in his very first year.

Isipatana are currently trailing 2-3 in the series and they recorded their last win in 1986 under the captaincy of Chetaka Perera.

The team is coached by U.S.C.Perera with M.W.Gamage as the master in charge.
