Date-stamped : 03 Jan97 - 14:22 31 December 1996 Mujahid and Ijaz flying to Australia By Our Sport Reporter LAHORE, Dec 30: Ijaz Ahmad Junior and Mujahid Jamshed will be flying to Australia within a couple of days to reinforce the injury-plagued Pakistan cricket team. Chairman of the selection committee Saleem Altaf told this correspondent soon after a meeting at the Qadhafi Stadium that passports of the two players are being sent to the Australia High Commission in Islamabad on Tuesday for issuance of visas and oth- er formalities for the departure of two players are being com- pleted. Besides the two selectors Zaheer Abbas and Haroon Rashid, also present at the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Head- quarters were its chairman Syed Zulfiqar Ali Bokhari and chief executive Majid Khan. While replying to a question, Saleem Altaf said: "The prolific opener Saeed Anwar was flying back home due to persisting illness while Salim Malik has not reported to the national selection com- mittee about his fitness or availability for departure Down Under. So the two substitutes are being sent on first available flight." APP ADDS: Majid said the selectors preferred sending youngsters in place of Ramiz Raja and Asif Mujtaba who were being tipped as replacements. KARACHI DESK ADDS: Ijaz Ahmad Junior walks back in the Pakistan cricket team after aggregating 635 runs in 13 Patron`s Trophy in- nings for Allied Bank. He averaged 52.9 with his main scores be- ing 150, 151, 88, 83 and 67. Ijaz, who scored 1,585 runs in the 1994-95 season, played Tests at Peshawar and Faisalabad against Sri Lanka last season scoring just 5, 16 and 8. In October, he went to Hong Kong in the sixes competition but there also he was unimpressive. Mujahid Jamsheed, a 24-year-old Lahore batsman, not only is en- joying a good current season, he finished last season with flying colors averaging 46.18 with 508 runs out of which 423 at 84.6 came in Quaid-i-Azam Trophy. In the ongoing season, Mujahid has so far scored 729 runs at 60.58 with three centuries and five half centuries. Jamsheed has also represented Pakistan Under-19 sides having toured Ban- gladesh, India and England between 1988 and 1990.
