Date-stamped : 21 Jan97 - 22:17 19 January 1997 Azharuddin Reprimanded Indian Batsman Mohammed Azharuddin was called before a disci- plinary commitee at the close of play on the 4th day of the 3rd test in the India/South Africa series. Azharuddin - who was the only player involved in the hearing - was found guilty of showing dissent at an umpire`s decision and was severely reprimanded. The hearing revolved around Azharuddin`s reaction on being given out LBW to Shaun Pollock. Match Referee Barry Jarman took into account Azharuddin`s previ- ously unblemished disciplinary record over a 13 year internation- al career when imposing the sentence. It was emphasised that no words had been exchanged between Azharuddin and any South African player. Azharuddin apologised for his behaviour. Contributed by Bob.Dubery (dauphin@aztec.co.za)
