Date-stamped : 24 Jul95 - 22:26 Tour Match: Worcestershire v Young Australia Worcester, 22, 23, 24 July 1995 ====> Day 3, 24 Jul 95 Langer`s resistance saves day for tourists - Mike Beddow Worcestershire (397 & 198-6 dec) drew with Young Australians (332-3 dec & 220-9) JUSTIN LANGER, the most capped of the three Test players in this Young Australian side, preserved their unbeaten first-class record at the halfway point in a seven-week tour. He made an un- defeated 72 from 120 balls and negotiated 8.2 overs in the com- pany of last man Peter McIntyre. A target of 264 in 45 overs stretched even their powerful resources and the loss of the openers within six overs was a blow they could ill afford. Ricky Ponting`s partnership with Langer produced 67 in 11 overs before Ponting was caught by Moody off Stuart Lampitt. The middle order then caved in and the tourists almost threw away the advan- tage they had secured in the morning when Worcestershire lost five wickets for 77.
