Young Australians (316-5) bt Minor Counties (245-8) by 71 runs

THE Minor Counties, warming up for today`s fixture with the  West
Indies, performed admirably in defeat.

A century before lunch by Ricky Ponting was the backbone  of  the
Australians`  316  for  five off their 55 overs. The Minors, well
placed at 117 for one off 20 overs, went downhill after tea.

Ponting, dropped twice, prospered with  some  powerful  back-foot
scoring, his 120 spanning 119 balls.

The Minors bowlers clawed their way back from a  likely  350-plus
total, Steve Dean, Laurie Potter and Stuart Laudat batting well.
