Date-stamped : 06 Aug95 - 22:26 Tour Match: Leicestershire v Young Australia Leicester, 5 August 1995 Hungry Australians clean up - John Stanley Young Australia (236) bt Leics (179) by 57 runs YOUNG Australia not only wanted victory more than their opponents did; they also had a greater desire to play this 40-over match, which had come about because the county had won the scheduled four-day fixture within just two days. Understandably, Leicestershire were not so keen. Professional cricketers like a day or two off and the home side probably felt they had earned it with their victory. They made four changes from the "big" match, which meant that the devastating new-ball partnership of Allan Mullally and Alamgir Sheryar was weakened by the absence of Mullally. And Sheryar went wicketless yesterday in his mere three overs. The Australians started with quiet assurance, Matthew Hayden and Ricky Ponting producing a 154-run stand for the second wicket. Leicestershire used seven bowlers and if off-spinner Adrian Pier- son was the most successful with three wickets, he was also rath- er expensive with 41 from four overs. Brad Williams, bowling at some speed, twice hit the stumps in his second over and after that for all of an 82-run stand by James Whitaker and Phil Robin- son, Leicestershire`s demise - by 57 runs - was inevitable.
