Date-stamped : 25 Apr95 - 22:38 Benson and Hedges Round 2: Scotland v Derbyshire Titwood-Glasgow, 25 April 1995 Cullinan the cornerstone for Derbyshire - Keith Graham Derbys (220-6) bt Scotland (174) by 46 runs A CULTURED century from South African Daryll Cullinan saved Der- byshire from some embarrassment against Scotland at Titwood, Glasgow, yesterday. The rest of the Derbyshire batsmen simply could not get going against an accurate Scottish attack on a very slow-paced wicket. Only Kim Barnett, with a stoic 40, gave Cullinan support and the South African was lucky to escape a chance at extra cover off the bowling of Scotland`s overseas player, Malcolm Marshall, when on just 13. Cullinan alone came to terms with the slow pace of the pitch, timing the ball sweetly. Peter Steindl, Australian-born but now living in Scotland, took three for 43, having Adrian Rollins and Chris Adams caught behind and trapping Tim O`Gorman lbw. Only a final flourish from Cullinan and loss of concentration by the Scottish bowlers enabled Derbyshire to reach 220 for six. The Scots` batting suffered an early blow when Alastair Storie was bowled by Alan Warner for two. Former Cheshire batsman Steve Crawley took the Derbyshire attack on, always prepared to loft the ball over the in-field. But when Devon Malcolm joined the at- tack, Crawley took the aerial route once too often to be caught by Phillip DeFreitas at deep square leg, the first of four wick- ets to be claimed by Malcolm.. A fifth-wicket stand between Jim Love (35) and Marshall (36) kept Scotland in the hunt but Love fell lbw trying to work DeFreitas on the leg side and Marshall went to a catch at short third man off Malcolm. Ian Stanger contributed a spirited 27 but Scotland were finally all out for 174 in the 52nd over. Cullinan deservedly won the Gold Award.
